Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN | Beyond the visible | Episode 3 | The Hidden Backbone !!!

The Hidden Backbone: the unmissable "Beyond the Visible" event is back

·      "The Hidden Backbone" is the third episode of Alfa Romeo's "Beyond the Visible", the exciting docu-series which goes "behind the scenes and beyond" of the Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN.

·      The topic of the new episode is as fundamental as it is invisible: logistics. From team transfers and moving materials and the F1 car to building the entire paddock on circuits around the world.

·      The economic investment allocated to logistics operations is impressive. And the modes of transport are many: by sea, by air, and where possible by road with trucks.

·      Designed to excite even those who are not Formula 1 experts, the new episode is now available on Alfa Romeo's official social media and YouTube channels: link.

After the success of the first two episodes “Before we hit the ground” and “Trust is gained”, the long-awaited appointment with "Beyond the Visible," the Alfa Romeo docu-series which goes behind the scenes and beyond with the Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN, is here. The third of five digital appointments revealing the adrenaline-pumping and challenging daily routine of the team involved in the world's most-watched motorsport competition is now available.

The third episode, entitled "The Hidden Backbone", takes the audience on a discovery of the complex and maniacal organization of the logistics operations behind a season of Formula 1. Complex numbers, units of measurement, and metrics are used to organize the transfer of people and materials from one part of the world to another. The hospitality, paddock, and garage that house the team's sporting exploits are rebuilt from the ground up at every single race, only to be dismantled a few hours later. Leading the entire process, with great skill and precision, is a highly specialized team that relentlessly faces long intercontinental transfers, with gruelling shifts to bring to life and dismantle immediately after the physical structure where the world's most watched motorsport competition takes place.

In this third episode, therefore, the general public will have the opportunity to learn about the background of those fundamental activities that, out of the spotlights, bring the excitement of Formula 1 to the stage. Starting with numbers: out of a budget of 140 million euros, 15 percent is allocated to logistics operations, material handling, and transportation. Concerning the last season, about 230 tons are moved by sea, 40 tons by air, and the remainder is loaded onto trucks and transferred by land. In addition, about 100 team members, including drivers, mechanics, athletic trainers, doctors, dedicated catering staff, and marketing and communications department personnel, travel on each Grand Prix. Operations are strategically planned well in advance: by December of the previous year, 90 percent of the entire logistics of the upcoming season are finalized.

Cristiano Fiorio, Alfa Romeo F1 Manager: "We are very proud of this project. We wanted to talk about topics that are mostly unknown to the public and above all we tried to bring to light all those 'invisible' professionals who are fundamental in the team management. Logistics in F1 is impressive, especially when you consider that it is strictly aimed at having just two cars perform to their full potential on circuits around the world.

Logistics is therefore a key aspect and is also a major work in progress for the F1 of tomorrow.”

“Beyond the Visible” primary goal is to tell the behind-the-scenes of a world made of adrenaline and performance. When the traffic lights go out on the straight of Grand Prix races around the world, the big show, the most beloved of motorsport competitions, kicks off, all this is accomplished thanks to equally high-performing logistics professionals showed in "The Hidden Backbone," on air on Alfa Romeo's official social media and YouTube channels.

ABT special team with CUPRA in Formula E

ABT Sportsline is receiving strong support for its comeback in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship: CUPRA is joining the championship for purely electric formula cars as partner alongside ABT Sportsline. In Extreme E, the two brands have been forming a successful duo for two years and just won the season finale in Uruguay. As early as next week, the ABT CUPRA Formula E team will make its first public appearance with the new look at the series’ official test in Valencia.

“We are happy and also proud to have CUPRA at our side for our Formula E comeback,” says Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of ABT SE. “Our two brands have enjoyed a close and successful partnership for years on the racetrack and on the road, which is now reaching a new level. We are looking forward to the new adventure and I am sure we will attract a lot of attention on and off the racetrack.”

The spectacular design of the race cars for Robin Frijns and Nico Müller is based on the all-electric CUPRA UrbanRebel concept car, of which there will also be a road version in 2025. “I can’t wait to see the ABT CUPRA Formula E team competing in the heart of some of the world’s most iconic cities,” says Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA. “Formula E is a unique motorsport platform for the world’s leading automotive manufacturers to create emotions and continue to prove that electric motorsport is not boring, but rather goes hand in hand with extreme performance.”

For CUPRA, entering Formula E with ABT is its third involvement in an all-electric championship, following FIA ETCR and Extreme E. “We are excited to welcome CUPRA to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship”, says Jamie Reigle, CEO of Formula E. “CUPRA has gained rich experience in electric motorsport in recent years. Now in partnership with ABT Sportsline they are set to dial up what is an incredibly competitive Formula E grid in Season 9 and the new Gen3 era. We can’t wait to see them in action in Mexico City in January.”

The new Formula E season kicks off on 14 January 2023 in Mexico City and then travels to at least nine more major cities around the world until the end of July. New locations include Cape Town (South Africa), Hyderabad (India) and São Paulo (Brazil). The highlight from a German perspective will be Formula E’s appearance in Berlin on 22 and 23 April 2023. ABT was already part of the Formula E family from 2014 to 2021 and is still the most successful team with 47 podium finishes. In 2023, the brand will start as a customer team with vehicles from Mahindra Racing.
