1969 Chevelle Twin-Turbo 540 Big-Block V8

RamblinAround
This is, without a doubt, one of the most wicked Chevelle's you will ever come across. This pro touring beast is powered by an all-aluminum 540 Big-block Chevy, with twin 76 mm Turbos and a Nelson Racing billet intake with 16 injectors. It's riding on a Roadster Shop chassis, with Detroit Speed suspension components, front and rear. The car was fabricated and assembled by Mike Gamble, of Gamble's Street Rods. John's Auto Body did all the custom body work and sprayed the 2010 Dodge Viper Graphite paint. Tracy, from the Recovery Room, completed the full custom interior. The car also has an ISIS wiring system and MiMod touch screen, which allows control of most vehicle functions. The car is currently being sold at Gateway Classic Cars in O'Fallon, IL. This truly is a one-of-a-kind work of automotive art. I hope you find it interesting, thanks for watching!

Video

Chrysler Group LLC was selected by Latina Style as one of the top twelve companies for Hispanic women to work in the U.S. The ranking is part of the annual Latina Style 50 report. Deborah Reyes, Marketing Manager for Dodge Dart –Chrysler Group LLC; Virginia Teeple, U-Connect Project Chief FIAT 500/500L—Chrysler Group LLC and Maria Quintero, Engineer—Chrysler Group Institute of Engineering discuss their experiences as a Latina working for Chrysler Group.

Chrysler Group Recognized as a Top Employer for Hispanic Women
Chrysler Group is named to the top twelve companies listed on the annual Latina Style Top 50 Report

The Report “is the most respected evaluation of corporate America’s employment opportunities and policies as they pertain to Latinas” For the eleventh year the Company has been included in the Top 50 Report

August 27, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - After the evaluation of more than 800 corporations, the editors of Latina Style magazine have named Chrysler Group LLC as one of the top twelve companies for Hispanic women to work in the U.S. The ranking is part of the annual Latina Style Top 50 report. Chrysler Group and its program will be featured in the August issue of the magazine.

The Latina Style Top 50 Report highlights companies that have a dedicated effort to diverse recruitment and promotion initiatives, including companies that have programs to recruit veterans and military personnel, and is considered “the most respected evaluation of corporate America’s employment opportunities and policies as they pertain to Latinas.”

This was the eleventh time Chrysler Group has been recognized in the Top 50 Report since the benchmark was established in 1998.

“Diversity and inclusion are core elements of Chrysler Group’s business strategy and vital to our efforts to develop a workforce that enables the Company to innovate and compete in a dynamic, competitive industry,” said Georgette Borrego Dulworth, Director, Talent Acquisition and Diversity—Chrysler Group LLC. “This recognition is a testament to the Company’s
commitment to maintaining a work culture that respects and engages all people and cultures.”

Latina Style magazine began the Top 50 Report list as “a quest to explore deeper into the business world and bring forth powerful and useful information on the increasing importance of recruiting professional Latinas.” In 1997, with the assistance of the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and national Hispanic organizations, the magazine developed a comprehensive survey that is sent annually to Fortune 1000 companies. The LS50 report, the result of that annual survey process, highlights each selected company's leadership programs, employee benefits and Latina representation in senior positions.

Latina Style magazine is the most influential publication reaching the contemporary Hispanic woman. With a national circulation of 150,000 and a readership of nearly 600,000, the magazine is unique in its ability to reach both the seasoned professional and the young Latina entering the workforce for the first time showcasing Latina achievements in all areas, including business, science, civic affairs, education, entertainment, sports, and the arts.

75th Anniversary of the FLINT SIT DOWN STRIKE - a UAW documentary

Uploaded on Feb 9, 2012
75 YEARS AFTER SITTING DOWN FOR SOLIDARITY

- UAW Honors Original 'Occupy' Movement - '36-37 Flint Sit Down Strike -

The nation is in economic crisis, unemployment is high, people are losing homes, workers are afraid to unionize and families, swamped in debt, struggle for a better life. Worldwide, masses stand up against corporate greed and demand a better quality of life by sitting down and occupying space in a unified effort to be heard. These people -- dubbed radicals or even communists by the opposition -- believe this organizing movement has critical importance in their effort to create change.

The year is 1936 -- not 2012 -- a turbulent time for autoworkers whose determination and courage helped the labor movement gain a better quality of life for workers and, ultimately, create the American middle class.

Known as "White Shirt Day," Feb. 11 marks the 75th anniversary of the most famous of these sit-down actions, the 1936-1937 General Motors Flint Sit-Down Strike. Men and women throughout the UAW wear white-collar attire traditionally donned by management to remember the sacrifices and victories of workers.

But winning was no small task.

"There were people dropping over because of the heat, and other workers were told to step over them," recalled Geraldine Blankinship, 92, who supported the Women's Auxiliary and Emergency Brigade when she was just 17.

"They didn't slow down the line, and they didn't stop it. They just dragged people away. It was such an inhumane thing to do," added Blankinship, whose father, Jay Green, was vice chair of the strike. She spent many nights working with her mother, Ida, a red-caped beret-wearing brigade member, who fought bravely to deter the company's actions.

Workers at GM's Fisher Plant in Flint, Mich., were tired of fearing not only for their safety, but also for job security, so they initiated a sit-down strike by locking themselves inside the plant for as long as it would take for the company to recognize their right to form a union and negotiate for higher pay and better working conditions. The Flint standoff inspired workers from other GM facilities to sit down in solidarity as well.

The future was unknown for these brave, defiant workers who feared losing their jobs, the threat of police intervention and even of their families abandoning them while they were locked inside.

"I was kind of afraid I'd have to go back to waitressing," said Pauline Polsgrove, 93, with a laugh. She's the last surviving female sit-down worker from 1936.

Richard Wiecorek, 95, recalled how "One guy, he had five kids and he'd get so nervous, he'd pass out. He didn't know if he was going to get his job back."

The workers' fortitude would be challenged when police arrived to force them out of the plant, but their spirit and strong community support was too strong to break their drive.

Eventually, something incredible happened to help bring the standoff closer to an end when then-Michigan Gov. Frank Murphy called in the National Guard -- to go to the plants and protect workers from police and corporate thugs.

The strike ended after 44 days on Feb. 11, 1937, when GM recognized the UAW and negotiated a first contract. Sit-downers walked out of the plant to find a parade with thousands of supporters.

James Todd, 98, who still teaches square dancing three times a week, was a janitor in 1936 before the strike. Todd is proud of the successes that came as a result of the sit-down movement.

"We all got better jobs ... and for black people, we got jobs that we didn't get before because most of the time, we were just sweeping floors. But after that, we all went on machines."
In today's climate, with workers facing corporate-lobbied politicians trying to eliminate collective bargaining rights, Wiecorek has some time-honored wisdom: "If you have a union, hang on to it."

UAW and the Detroit Automakers (14-Feb-2014)

Published on Feb 14, 2014
The president of the United Auto Workers Union makes no secret of the fact that the union's future depends on its ability to expand.. workers at Chattanooga's Volkswagen plant are voting right now whether to join the union. The U-A-W worked with General Motors to reopen the former Saturn plant at Spring Hill, and at least one industry watcher tells us, the union is not afraid to throw its weight around.Vincent Vernuccio with the Mackinaw Center in Michigan has watched the relationship between the U-A-W and General Motors, since working in the Bush Administration's Department of Labor for years..In a Skype interview with NewsChannel 9, he says, U-A-W members are having a strained relationship with each other, and some of that strain has shown up in negotiations with Detroit's automakers.

You see a lot of that dichotomy within the UAW with the retirees versus the new hires, he says, because the retirees have a huge say in the way the UAW operates and in the contract negotiations.Vernuccio says, back in 2008 as G-M was gasping for air, the automaker needed the union's help to survive. We need concessions, we need your help, Vernuccio says the automaker was begging of the UAW back then. But for the most part, the UAW negotiators just simply didn't believe them.. they thought they were bluffing, and that may be another reason that led those car companies down the road to bankruptcy. He says over the years, the UAW has had a mission in its relationship with G-M, Ford and Chrysler.

Essentially what they do is, they start attacking what they think is the weakest link of the Big 3 automakers and try to extract concessions from them, Vernuccio says, and then go to the next one and say 'Chrysler or GM gave me 'X,' so you should give me 'X' too. After unsuccessfully trying to organize at Honda, Toyota and Nissan, Vernuccio says, the possible reason why the U-A-W chose Volkswagen, is because most of Volkswagen's workers in Germany, already belong to a union, although a different type of union..The V-W vote at the Chattanooga plant is being conducted by the National Labor Relations Board, and the results could be known shortly after the votes are counted.By Calvin Sneed

The 10 Best Car Apps for Smartphones

The 10 Best Car Apps for Smartphones

Smartphones are changing our lives: the way we think, the way we plan (or don't) and certainly the way we use our cars. At the intersection of the smartphone and the automobile lies a vast opportunity for increases in speed, efficiency and entertainment. That's where the car apps come in.
Whether you want to find your car, your destination or the cheapest gas in the area, it can all be accomplished on your phone. Performance testing, of course, is easy with the right app. And now you can use your phone to diagnose problems or pacify the kids on a long trip. Of course, if you're car shopping, Edmunds.com has a free app to help you find the best car for your particular needs, along with pricing and dealer inventory. But humility precludes us from including it on the list.
Otherwise, our favorite automotive apps are below. The list isn't comprehensive or all-inclusive, but it's a solid collection of the most useful and entertaining car apps available today.
10 Best Car Apps
GasBuddy — Free
Available for: iOS, Android and Blackberry
Why pay more for gas when you don't have to? Driving around comparing pump prices certainly doesn't make much sense, so that's where gasbuddy.com comes in. The Web site posts local gas prices in an easy-to-use format and in the different grades, including diesel.

Rather than navigate to the site, you can now get all that information in a smartphone app. As an added bonus, you can even get driving directions.
10 Best Car Apps
Available for: iOS
Here at Edmunds, we use some pretty serious equipment in our instrumented testing. But you don't have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to get performance data. Dynolicious uses the iPhone's built-in accelerometers to gauge lateral and longitudinal acceleration and horsepower. The results are 0-60 and quarter-mile numbers. You can graph, save and compare the results, too. There's also Dynolicious Fusion ($12.99) that allows you to share your results online.

We ran the app against our $20,000 Racelogic Vbox and Dynolicious proved close enough. In both 0-60-mph and quarter-mile acceleration, the app was optimistic by between 0.1 and 0.3 second. Lateral acceleration seemed to be acceptably close, too.
10 Best Car Apps
Repair Pal — Free
Available for: iOS and Android
Auto mechanics don't have the best reputation for trustworthiness. Calling different mechanics around town for repair quotes can be a real pain. With Repair Pal, that legwork is done for you.

Just select your car and the type of repair needed, and it'll spit out what you might expect to pay in your area. It's based on the repairpal.com Web site and functions the same. We found Repair Pal's estimates were slightly higher than the final price we paid for various repairs, but well within an acceptable margin.
10 Best Car Apps
Witness Driving — $0.99
Available for: iOS and Android
Why should the Russians have all the fun? Dash cams are a great way to protect yourself from insurance fraudsters, bad drivers and perhaps even an undeserved ticket. Rather than shell out $50-$300 for a dedicated dash cam, you can simply convert your smartphone for a measly $0.99.

Besides the looping record function, Witness Driving also logs time, date, speed, location and acceleration in gs. There's even an accident detection feature that can send a notification e-mail. Controls are simple and create little distraction. Of course, you'll need a windshield mount for your phone, but we found a wide selection online for under $10.
10 Best Car Apps
Waze — Free
Available for: iOS and Android
How good is Waze? Good enough for Google to shell out more than a billion dollars to buy it. And that's because Waze is more than a navigation app. It's community driven, using user data to pinpoint traffic jams, accidents and gas prices in real time. It even warns you if law enforcement is right around the corner.

When heavy delays are shown, Waze will also route you around it as best it can. Traffic isn't limited to highways and major arteries, either. Side streets can be included, too. Not only is Waze the best free navigation app, it is better than many pay apps, too.
10 Best Car Apps
Honk — $0.99
Available for: iOS
Where'd I park? How much time do I have on the meter? How do I get back to that space? What's around the area? There was a time when you'd have to open up several apps to answer these questions. Oh, the horror!

With Honk, you can mark where you parked with a GPS pin. Even if you parked deep within the bowels of a subterranean structure, you can move the pin, take a photo and make notes (including voice) of where you left the car. The app can also track how much time you have left on the meter, alerting you when time is about up.
While you're out you can also locate the nearest coffee house, ATM or gas station. When you need to get back, there's a breadcrumb trail feature to help you find your way. Take that, municipal revenue hounds.
10 Best Car Apps
Car Minder Plus — $2.99
Available for: iOS
Let's face it: For most of us, car maintenance isn't something over which we'll lose sleep. But we can all agree that maintenance is an important part of ownership, right? Car Minder makes it easy.

Car Minder Plus is like having your own personal fleet manager in your pocket. This app will remind you when it's time for scheduled maintenance as well as logging all of the service and repairs. You'll have to input the maintenance schedule yourself from the owner's manual, but it's worth it. Car Minder also tracks your fuel economy and can distill all of that data into an easy-to-read graph. On top of it all, you can manage multiple vehicles.
10 Best Car Apps
Real Racing 3 — Free
Available for: iOS and Android
And now for a little fun. Good racing games are rare. Good mobile racing games are even rarer. Somehow, Real Racing 3squeezes great graphics, stunning sound and entertaining gameplay into your smartphone. It's a heavy one, though, eating up more than a gig of memory, but hey, it's free!

Tracks include Laguna Seca (minus the oak tree in the corkscrew), Spa, Bathurst, Silverstone, Suzuka and the Hockenheimring. There are also quite a few variants of these tracks, too. Car highlights include the Audi R8, Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg CCXR, Lamborghini Aventador, McLaren F1, Pagani Zonda R, Porsche 918 Spyder and SRT Viper GTS.
10 Best Car Apps
PlugShare — Free
Available for: iOS and Android
Whether you have a plug-in hybrid or full-blown EV, finding a nearby charging station is a critical part of ownership. The PlugShare app makes it easy by showing you the closest charge station and breaking them down by which ones are home, public, quick-charge and in use.

You can also filter those results and further refine them by adding or deleting free stations, Tesla superchargers and access-restricted chargers. The app mirrors the plugshare.com site and offers driving directions, contact information and direct messaging with charger owners.
10 Best Car Apps
Augmented Driving — $2.99
Available for: iOS
Let's say you own an older car. Perhaps it's something that predates front collision and lane departure warnings, and you think you're missing out. Augmented Driving provides those features along with programmable speed warnings.

Augmented Driving relies heavily on visual data coming from the camera, and it's surprisingly accurate. Some alerts, like the lane departure warning can be tiresome since the app doesn't recognize when you're signaling, but you can disable its audible alarms. We found the front collision warnings functioned well, as they could be user-adjusted to the driver's preference. As with the Witness Driving app, you'll need to purchase a windshield mount separately. Setup instructions were well illustrated and we were up and running in a matter of minutes.
iOnRoad is similar and is available for Android devices.
